Biden says Musk super PAC's $1M giveaways 'totally inappropriate'

President Biden criticized Elon Musk’s daily $1 million giveaways to registered swing state voters Monday, calling them “totally inappropriate.”

“I think it’s totally inappropriate,” the president told reporters after casting his ballot in his home state of Delaware.

America PAC, Musk’s pro-Trump super PAC, has faced pushback since launching the controversial sweepstakes earlier this month. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner (D) on Monday sued the billionaire and his super PAC over the giveaways.

“The Philadelphia District Attorney is charged with protecting the public from public nuisances and unfair trade practices, including illegal lotteries. The DA is also charged with protecting the public from interference with the integrity of elections,” Krasner said in a statement.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) also sent America PAC a letter, warning that the sweepstakes could violate a federal law against paying people to register to vote. The super PAC has continued to hand out checks despite the warning.

The PAC has given out nine $1 million checks so far to registered voters in several swing states who have signed its petition supporting free speech and the right to bear arms. It plans to continue the giveaways through Election Day.

Musk, who endorsed former President Trump in July, has dumped at least $118 million into his super PAC, which has played a key role in the Trump campaign’s get-out-the-vote efforts in swing states.

The billionaire himself has also taken on an active role in boosting the former president, holding a series of town halls in Pennsylvania and appearing alongside Trump at his Madison Square Garden rally Sunday.
